D.I.M.E.S Organization to help at Southern Manor Retirement Inn

Statesboro, Ga., Sept. 22, 2016—D.I.M.E.S fashion organization (DFO) of Georgia Southern University is asking for blankets or art to donate to the seniors at the Southern Manor Retirement Inn. Southern Manor Retirement Inn is a 34-bed Retirement community for senior citizens that DFO volunteers and donates to every third week of fall.

“We hold a truth we firmly believe in ‘Treat each resident like we treat our own parents and grandparents’”, said the Alan W. Skipper, the owner/CEO of the nursing home, “our staff and volunteers are the quintessential resources that make our community the absolute best choice for your loved one.” Few of the seniors are often moved into the nursing home and become distant and lose contact from their families. DFO aims to remind the seniors that the local community and the Georgia Southern campus know who they are. “Our organization seeks companionship with the seniors living at Southern Manor Retirement Inn because even though we are adults, we could still learn a lot from those who’ve experienced life longer than we have”, stated the president of DFO, Carlton Taylor.

The blankets and art are given to the seniors to provide warmth, friendship, and a reminder that DFO truly cares. DFO annually gives to the nursing home and take pride in it. According to a study conducted by researchers from the University of California, 43 percent of elders report feeling lonely on a regular basis. DFO aims to lower that percentage by sharing time with the elders of Southern Manor Retirement Inn. DFO will be collecting blankets and art Monday through Friday in the Russell Union Commons from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., until October, 14. The seniors in the nursing home look forward to receiving these items every fall.
